Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
Counseling can be beneficial whether you’re experiencing emotional distress, navigating a particular challenge, or seeking greater self-awareness, meaning, and personal growth.
You don’t need to be in crisis or have a mental health diagnosis to benefit from counseling. Sometimes, the desire to better understand yourself, your relationships, your experiences, or your direction in life is reason enough to begin.
Yes. I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation for prospective clients.
This brief conversation provides an opportunity to share what you’re seeking support for, ask questions about my services and approach, and explore whether working together may be a good fit.
The consultation is not a counseling session and does not establish a therapeutic relationship.
Your initial intake session is an opportunity for us to begin exploring what brings you to counseling, your current concerns, relevant history, and what you hope to gain from our work together.
We’ll discuss your needs, strengths, goals, and preferences while beginning to develop a thoughtful and individualized path forward.
There is no expectation that you share everything at once. We will move at a pace that respects your comfort, readiness, and individual circumstances.
Initial intake sessions are 90 minutes.
Counseling typically begins with weekly sessions to support continuity, build a therapeutic relationship, and establish momentum.
As our work progresses, we can collaboratively evaluate whether a different frequency, such as biweekly sessions, is appropriate.
The overall duration of counseling varies. Some individuals benefit from shorter-term support focused on a particular concern, while others choose longer-term work involving trauma recovery, relational patterns, identity, or personal development.
We’ll revisit your goals and progress throughout our work together.
Counseling Services & Approach
Earthrise Counseling provides individual online counseling for adults ages 18 and older.
I welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, cultures, and life experiences.
In addition to serving the general adult population, I have a particular interest in supporting veterans and military professionals, astronauts and space-industry professionals, high performers, artists, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and individuals navigating complex personal or professional transitions.
Each person’s experiences, values, and needs are unique, and counseling is tailored accordingly.
What concerns can counseling help with?
I work with adults navigating a range of psychological, emotional, and existential concerns, including:
- Trauma and PTSD
- Anxiety and depression
- Grief and loss
- Chronic pain
- Stress and burnout
- Life transitions and adjustment
- Identity exploration and personal development
- Relationship and interpersonal concerns
- Existential questions about meaning, purpose, freedom, and mortality
- Spirituality and changes in worldview
- Psychedelic, Holotropic, and other nonordinary experience integration
You do not need to fit neatly into any particular category. Counseling begins with understanding your individual experience.
Existential–integrative counseling recognizes that psychological well-being involves more than the reduction of symptoms. It also encompasses how we understand ourselves, relate to others, navigate uncertainty, and experience meaning and purpose in our lives.
My approach integrates existential–humanistic, person-centered, transpersonal, somatic, and evidence-informed therapeutic perspectives.
Depending on your needs, our work may incorporate EMDR Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and other complementary approaches.
Together, we’ll attend to both immediate concerns and the deeper patterns, experiences, and questions that may shape your life.
Counseling is collaborative, compassionate, trauma-informed, and adapted to your individual needs and goals.
Not at all.
Although spirituality, meaning, and existential exploration are areas of interest within my practice, there is no expectation that you hold particular beliefs or wish to explore these topics.
I respect religious, spiritual, secular, agnostic, and other worldviews. Our conversations will be guided by your own concerns, values, preferences, and goals.
Yes. I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy as part of my trauma-informed, integrative approach.
EMDR Therapy is a structured psychotherapy designed to help individuals process distressing experiences and memories that may continue to influence their emotions, beliefs, and responses.
EMDR Therapy may be helpful for trauma-related concerns and certain other difficulties, although it is not necessarily the most appropriate approach for everyone.
Together, we can explore whether EMDR Therapy may be beneficial based on your history, current circumstances, and therapeutic goals.
Yes. I provide integration counseling for adults seeking to process and make sense of psychedelic, Holotropic, spiritually significant, or other nonordinary experiences.
Such experiences can evoke powerful emotions, shifts in perspective, questions about identity, or changes in one’s sense of meaning and connection.
Integration counseling offers a supportive, nonjudgmental environment to explore these experiences, understand their personal significance, and consider how meaningful insights might be incorporated into everyday life.
Earthrise Counseling does not provide, prescribe, administer, or facilitate psychedelic substances. Integration counseling does not involve the provision or supervised use of such substances.
Yes. Earthrise Counseling offers individual online counseling for astronauts, astronaut candidates and trainees, aerospace and space-industry professionals, and adult partners and family members.
Individuals connected to space exploration may navigate demanding responsibilities, uncertainty, high-performance pressures, transitions, relationships, questions of identity, and experiences that challenge or expand their perspectives.
My approach recognizes the whole person beyond their professional role. Counseling is shaped around each individual’s concerns rather than assumptions about their career or experiences.
